METAIRIE HUMANE
HISTORY
Metairie Humane was founded by a group of concerned long-term Metairie residents who wanted to do something to improve the prospects and the quality of life for homeless pets in the Metairie/Greater New Orleans area. Spurred to action by the frequent headlines of the continual failure of the local shelters to provide adoptable animal a chance at finding a new forever family, Metairie Humane was born.
Today, Metairie Humane tries to provide as many homeless pets as possible with a safe and loving environment as they await a forever family. To prevent as many pets as possible from ending up as homeless pets, they provide educational services encouraging responsible pet ownership and making known the many benefits of spaying or neutering your pets.
Metairie Humane uses all donations and funds raised at events to fund veterinary care, upkeep of pets awaiting adoption, long term care of unadoptable animals, educational programs to benefit responsible pet ownership and other related expenses. Metairie Humane does not have ANY paid staff members.
To benefit Metairie Humane , there is also a retail location selling goods from which all profits go to Metairie Humane. The Petique is at 6213 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70003. A wide variety of products are sold, ranging from inexpensive collars and t-shirts to designer togs for the fashion conscious pooch. Cash or credit cards are accepted as payment in the Petique, as it is separate from the other facility that donated the space for the Petique in their building. (Pampered Pets Bed & Breakfast)
The Petique does not do mail order or have an online store at this time, although many of the pets awaiting adoption have modeled clothing and accessories in their photos. The Petique is open Mon-Fri from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. and Sundays from 3-5 p.m.. Metairie Humane also takes mini-versions of its Petique to local pet events with limited merchandise such as custom ID Tags, t-shirt and sports jerseys.
Adoptable pets are usually available for potential pet parents to meet them from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.. Adoption candidates are NOT usually available for meeting prospective parents for the week prior or after a holiday.
